Quick answer: the best automated SEO tools depend on how much you want done for you. If you want articles written, approved by you and published to your site, plus help with your Google listing, Auto-SEO (our product) is built for UK businesses. For high-volume blogging, Outrank and SEObot are strong. If you'd rather write and edit yourself with AI help, look at Surfer or Semrush's Content Toolkit, and for an all-in-one platform with Google Business Profile tools, Search Atlas.
Please note: Auto-SEO is our product, so we have a clear interest in this comparison. Below we explain how we tried to keep it fair, and every tool, including ours, gets a "not ideal if" section.

Key takeaways
"Automated SEO" covers three different kinds of tool: done-for-you blog autopilots, AI writing tools you steer yourself, and all-in-one SEO platforms.
Prices start at $25 to $99 a month for most tools here. Auto-SEO starts at £49 a month after a £1 seven-day trial.
Only a few combine articles with Google listing help: Auto-SEO, Search Atlas and Arvow. That matters if most of your customers find you on Google Maps.
AI visibility tracking is now common, but how much you get varies a lot by plan, so check what your tier includes.
No tool removes the need to check facts. The better ones let you review articles before they go live.
Want articles written for your business, approved by you and published for you? Every plan starts with a seven-day trial for £1.
What is automated SEO software (and what it isn't)?
Automated SEO software, sometimes called SEO automation tools, takes jobs that used to need an agency or hours of your time and runs them on a schedule. Most tools in this list research topics, write articles with AI and publish them to your website, and some also track rankings or tidy your Google Business Profile. We cover the basics in more depth in our guide to what automated SEO actually is.
It isn't a magic button. Software can't earn genuine customer reviews, fix a slow website on its own or know your business better than you do. That's why the best results usually come from automation plus a few minutes of your own input, a trade-off we explore in automatic versus manual SEO.
How did we compare these tools?
Auto-SEO is our product, so here's how we tried to keep this fair. We checked every tool's own website and pricing page on 30 October 2026, and we only state what each company publishes about itself. We haven't paid for every plan, so where a detail wasn't published, the table says "not listed" rather than guessing.
When people search for the best automated SEO software, they usually want to know what it will actually do for them. So we compared each tool on six things that matter to UK businesses: does it write articles, does it publish them for you, does it help with your Google listing, does it track AI visibility, what's the starting price, and can you try it first. The list isn't a ranking. Tools are grouped by type and listed alphabetically within each group, ours included.
Competitor prices are shown in US dollars, as they appear on their own sites. What you pay in pounds depends on the exchange rate when you're charged.

It posts to WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Joomla, Drupal and GoDaddy sites, and every plan includes key phrase tracking, a ranking graph and backlinks. For local trades, Google Business Profile optimisation is available as an add-on, and every sign-up gets a free Google Maps heat map in the dashboard to see where you rank street by street.

Best for: UK businesses and sole traders who want articles written and published for them, with approval control and help on Google Maps.
Not ideal if: you want 30 or more articles a month (our plans run from one to three a week), you'd rather write in a content editor yourself, or you mainly target customers outside the UK.

Best for: content teams and agencies producing articles in bulk.
Not ideal if: you need local SEO or Google listing help, which it doesn't list.
Price: Starter $99 a month for 25 articles. A free plan gives you a few starter credits to test it.

See where you rank on Google Maps: your first heat map is free. Find your business on the map and see every street where customers can, and can't, find you.

Semrush Content Toolkit

Best for: people who write their own content and want clear guidance on improving it.
Not ideal if: you want articles published for you today, or help with Google Maps.
Price: Discovery from $49 a month billed yearly. AI Tracker starts on the $99 Standard plan, or $82 a month on its own.
All-in-one SEO platform
Search Atlas (OTTO)
Search Atlas is a full SEO platform. Its OTTO assistant handles technical fixes, on-page changes and content, with an approval mode if you want to check changes first. It also manages Google Business Profiles, automates posts and review replies, and tracks LLM visibility. Plans are on the Search Atlas website (searchatlas.com).
Best for: agencies and in-house marketers who want one platform for most SEO jobs.
Not ideal if: you want something simple, as there's a lot to learn and set up.
Price: Starter $99 a month (one site, three Google Business Profiles), with a seven-day trial.
Which one suits you?
You're a local trade or service business and most calls come from Google Maps: look for articles plus listing help. Auto-SEO, Search Atlas and Arvow's Business plan cover both.
You want a hands-off blog at volume: Outrank, SEObot, Byword or Arvow will publish far more articles a month than you'll ever read.
You like writing and want to do it better: Surfer or the Semrush Content Toolkit keep you in control.
You're watching every pound: Koala's free plan and $25 Starter are the cheapest way to start, as long as you have time to steer it.
You run an agency: Search Atlas is built for managing many sites and clients.
Whichever you choose, more articles isn't always better. A steady rhythm of useful posts tends to beat bursts, as we explain in how often to publish blog content.
FAQs: automated SEO tools
Does Google penalise AI-written SEO articles?
No, not for being written with AI. Google Search Central's guidance on AI-generated content (February 2023) says it rewards helpful, original content however it's made. What breaks its spam policies is using automation mainly to manipulate rankings, so quality and accuracy still matter.
Outrank vs SEObot: which is better?
Both publish articles on autopilot and build backlinks. Outrank gives a fixed 30 articles a month for $99, while SEObot starts at $49 and focuses on longer, research-heavy articles. Choose Outrank for volume and SEObot for depth at a lower entry price.
Auto-SEO vs Outrank: what's the difference?
Outrank publishes 30 articles a month for $99 and includes backlinks, so it suits sites that want volume. Auto-SEO publishes one to three articles a week from £49 a month, lets you approve each one before it goes live and writes in UK English. It also offers Google Business Profile optimisation from £29.99 a month and a free Google Maps heat map, which Outrank doesn't list.
How much does automated SEO software cost in the UK?
Koala starts at $25 a month, SEObot and Surfer at $49, Semrush's Content Toolkit at $60, and Outrank, Byword and Search Atlas at $99. Auto-SEO starts at £49 a month after a £1 seven-day trial. Our UK automatic SEO pricing guide compares this with agency fees.
Can automated SEO help my Google Maps ranking?
Articles help your website, but Maps rankings depend mostly on your Google Business Profile, your reviews and how far the searcher is from you. Search Atlas manages profiles, posts and review replies on its platform. Auto-SEO offers Google Business Profile optimisation from £29.99 a month with a plan, plus a heat map so you can see the change street by street.
Do I still need to do anything myself?
A little, and it's worth it. In Auto-SEO each article waits in your dashboard until you approve it, and Byword holds back any article with a figure it can't confirm until you've checked it. Keeping your business details up to date helps every tool write more accurately about you.
